Lake Apopka reborn: a story of ecological restoration.

For centuries, Lake Apopka was an ecosystem with a great diversity of wildlife and a source of food and water for the communities.

By the mid-20th century, however, over the years it had deteriorated environmentally. In the 1940s, the large tracts of land around the lake were drained to convert them into agricultural production lands for the communities in the sector.

This practice generated environmental problems in the different natural ecosystems of the lake, due to the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides, which generated a deterioration of water quality and killed much of the aquatic life. This has considerably affected this important natural resource of the state.

We invite you to watch this documentary about the restoration of Lake Apopka, an example of how it is possible to recover nature with effort and commitment.
